Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Program

Program Overview: Primary Care

°Õ³ó±ðÌýÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ Children's Hospital, DelawareÌýPrimary Care Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Fellowship is a 12-month, accredited program designed to integrate primary care continuity clinic days, protected didactic training and subspecialty clinic rotations for Pediatric Nurse Practitioners (PNP) in their first year of professional practice. PNP fellows have dedicated pediatric primary care mentor, who facilitate the transition to independent practice through support, knowledge and sharing.

Accredited in 2024 by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) through the Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Accreditation (APPFA) Program, this fellowship ensures high standards of clinical and educational excellence.

This program is supported by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), for the period 2024-2028 totaling $ 2.4 million in financial assistance. The contents of the fellowship are those of the fellowship leaders, and do not necessarily reflect the policies of HRSA, HHS or the U.S. Government.

What is the goal of the fellowship?

Postgraduate training programs for Advanced Practice Nurses are growing. The intent of the fellowship is to provide a year-long, postgraduate training experience that allows for protected learning time, exposure to pediatric subspecialties and experience in a primary care continuity clinic. Through the program year, the successful fellow will increase their confidence and efficiency in primary care delivery.

What is the start date of the fellowship?

The start date is October 20, 2025.

How many fellows are in each cohort?

There are four fellowship positions available annually.

Is this a paid fellowship?

As a primary care fellow, you receive an entry level salary and full benefits.

Do you interview candidates for the fellowship?

Candidates for interviews will be selected following review of application materials. Interviews will be conducted during application window.

Must I sign an employment contract if I'm accepted?

No, we do not require fellows to sign a commitment to work for ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ Children's following the fellowship. It is our hope, however, that our fellows will remain with ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ after completion of the fellowship. Employment following the fellowship is not guaranteed.

How is my primary care locations decided?

While most clinical experiences take place on our main campus in Wilmington, Delaware; fellows may be assigned to primary care sites anywhere within our ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ Delaware Valley region. These locations are selected to promote a diverse and comprehensive pediatric primary care provider experience.

Does participation in the Primary Care APP Fellowship qualify me for student loan repayment?

Yes, participation meets one of the primary requirements for student loan repayment. Please refer to the for more information on eligibility and how to apply.

ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ Children’s Hospital, Delaware, sits on a scenic, 300-acre estate in Wilmington’s Brandywine Valley. It’s the largest pediatric training site in our system, big enough to offer nearly every specialty, yet close-knit enough that faculty know their learners well. Hospital & Training Environment

Most of your training takes place at our children’s hospital in Wilmington, a nationally recognized destination for complex pediatric care. It’s the state’s only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center and home to a Level IV NICU, so you’ll see the full range of high-acuity cases. Along with ÎÚÑ»ÊÓÆµ, you may also spend time at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia and other partner hospitals. These rotations bring variety in community pediatrics, rehabilitation care, and patient populations you won’t see every day in Wilmington.Ìý

Research Opportunities

Research is part of daily life here. Some trainees work in the lab, others join clinical trials, and many focus on quality improvement. Supported by faculty mentors and dedicated resources, trainees may also present at national meetings or publish in peer-reviewed journals.Ìý
