Our Fellowship Program

The ÎÚÑ»ÊÓƵ Endocrine Fellowship Program will aim to train fellows to become exceptional clinicians who will deliver compassionate, value-based care to children and adolescents with the full range of endocrine disorders. The program also seeks to advance scientific research in endocrinology to promote scientific curiosity in fellows and advance the care of future generations of patients with endocrine disorders. The fellow will also graduate as a lifelong learner and educator of both families and future generations of physicians.

Training Overview

Our Endocrine Fellowship will provide training in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Fellows will attend weekly fellow's clinic in order to develop rapport and continuity with a set of patients with diverse endocrine pathology. Fellows will participate in biweekly journal club to develop the skills necessary to evaluate the latest medical literature and develop a desire for lifelong learning. The program will help fellows to develop their own teaching style so they can educate junior residents and medical students. Education of learners is integral to the continued success of pediatric endocrinology as a medical field. The program will provide a variety of research mentors to help develop a scholarly project that is not only important to add to medical knowledge, but also that is of interest to the fellow in order to instill curiosity and advance scientific discovery in endocrinology.

Valuable Clinical Experiences

Fellows will be given the opportunity to attend specialty-specific clinics, including the Gender Wellness Clinic for transgender individuals and eXtraordinarY Clinic for patients with sex chromosome alterations.

Fellows will be encouraged to work collaboratively with colleagues integral to excellent endocrine care including nursing, social work, psychology, diabetes educators and other subspecialists. Fellows will be trained in the care of a wide range of conditions:

  • Disorders of growth
  • Disorders of thyroid hormone physiology
  • Endocrine neoplasia
  • Disorders of adrenal gland physiology
  • Disorders of pubertal development
  • Differences in sex development
  • Vasopressin deficiency (diabetes insipidus)

The Endocrine Division

We care for over 1,500 outpatients with diabetes. The inpatient experience includes a significant consultative role: over 400 inpatient consultations and at least 250 inpatient admissions annually.

Research

Your research education begins with comprehensive training in biostatistics, lab research methodology, clinical research methodology, study design, grant preparation and preparation of protocols for the institutional review board (IRB). These areas are covered during the first year of your fellowship.

In subsequent years, you’ll have access to our world-class laboratories, equipment and resources, along with guidance from research professionals located on campus.

You’ll be encouraged to tailor the program’s research component to your interests and professional career plan. While research funding is encouraged and supported, it is not a requirement to maintain the fellowship position during any year.
